On Christmas Eve, 1914, British and German troops each started signing Christmas carols in their trenches. Even though they were in one of the most horrific places in the history of mankind, the Christmas spirit was able to come through. Many stories of truces were documented, even some of the soldiers playing soccer games against each other in no-man's land (the area in between both sides' trenches where you'd basically be guaranteed to die if you went into).
The Christmas spirit has always been really powerful in my life, and now, watching it through the eyes of my young kids has made it even better. I know this time of year can be tough for people, but as that story shows, I truly believe goodness can overcome even the darkest times.
